It’s Jesus I Need, Jesus Indeed

This morning, I woke up singing a song that I hadn’t thought about in a while:
It is Jesus I need, it is Jesus indeed
Who will make my faith beautiful and bold;
And with Jesus in me I need no longer be
So afraid of what future days may hold.

My slightly off-key tones were drifting out of the bathroom window as I sung in the shower, much to the likely bemusement of my neighbours. To them, I offer my apologies!

I love this song because the lyrics are so true, especially in this season of my life. Sometimes, life can feel like a relentless slog—bringing challenges, uncertainties, and days where hope feels a little further away. But in the middle of it all, I know one thing for sure: it’s Jesus I need.

I was particularly struck by the chorus:
O Jesus, Jesus,
You are the One who can make my life complete.
O Jesus, my peace restore.
It’s Jesus I need, Jesus indeed,
Jesus in me, more and more.

That’s my prayer. May there be less of me and more of Jesus in my life.

I hold on to that truth. It is Jesus I need, it is Jesus indeed. With Him, I don’t need to fear what the future holds, because my faith can be beautiful and bold when rooted in His love.

Rethinking Homelessness Services: A Call for Change in The Salvation Army For over a hundred years, The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom and Ireland has provided vital homelessness services. In more recent history, these services have often been funded through contracts with Local Authorities. These contracts usually dictate how services operate, setting financial limits, service models, and key performance indicators (KPIs). While they ensure some level of support and accommodation is available, they also present significant challenges—challenges that make me question whether this is still the right model to be used. Releasing All People into Flourishing Mission and Ministry I today had opportunity to have coffee with the one and only Andrew Vertigan. It was good to share with Andrew, especially as he co-leads my home church and was pivotal in my own call to ministry.  Afterwards, my mind turned to the following questions:  • What happens when leaders don’t fit into a box? • What happens when leaders don’t flourish on their own? • What happens when leaders have their skills, talents, and preferences assumed?
