Embracing a New Chapter: Welcoming Our New Salvation Army Lieutenants
Today marks an exciting moment for The Salvation Army in the United Kingdom & Ireland Territory as we celebrate the commissioning of our new lieutenants in Wales. These dedicated individuals, who have been trained at William Booth College in London, are now being sent out to serve communities across the United Kingdom and Ireland. As they step into their roles as ministers of the gospel and leaders, we are filled with hope and anticipation for the impact they will make.
Our new lieutenants have embarked on a journey fuelled by calling, faith, compassion, and a commitment to serve others. They will undoubtedly face challenges and joys, and as they navigate this path, I offer three key principles for them:
1. Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing
At the heart of God’s mission is a profound calling to keep God front and centre in all we do. This unwavering focus on faith will guide us through every decision, every interaction, and every act of service. By anchoring ourselves in God's love and purpose, we will find strength, wisdom, and clarity to lead our communities with grace and conviction.
2. Be Agile and Flexible
The communities our lieutenants are entering are diverse, dynamic, and ever-changing. To effectively minister to their needs and point people to their saviour, Jesus, it is crucial to remain agile and flexible, ready to adapt to new circumstances and the Holy Spirit's prompting. This responsiveness will enable us to meet people where they are, providing support, encouragement, and practical assistance in ways that resonate deeply and authentically, while journeying with people as disciples.
3. Prioritise Wellbeing
In our commitment to serve others, it is vital for our new lieutenants to take their own wellbeing seriously. Spiritual, mental, and physical health are the cornerstones of sustainable ministry. By nurturing our own souls, minds, and bodies, we will be better equipped to pour into the lives of those we serve. Self-care is not a luxury; it is a necessity for effective and enduring ministry - never forget this.
As these new lieutenants step out into their communities, I encourage them to embrace this journey with open hearts and minds. Their roles will be filled with opportunities to make a profound difference, to bring hope and healing, and to share the transformative love of God. With faith as their foundation, flexibility as their strength, and wellbeing as their anchor, they are poised to lead with compassion and purpose.
We are incredibly blessed by our new lieutenants and the commitment they have shown to The Salvation Army's mission. Their dedication is an inspiration to us all, and we are confident that they will make a lasting impact in the lives of those they touch. As they go forward, let us support them with our prayers, encouragement, and unwavering belief in the incredible work they are about to do in the name of Jesus.
If any of the new lieutenants are reading this, welcome to this new chapter. Keep God at the forefront, stay agile and adaptable, and take care of yourselves as you embark on this remarkable journey of service, love, and discipleship. Your communities are blessed to have you, and we are excited to see the wonderful things you will achieve.
